Winning the Open: Part 3

Dan Bailey finished first overall in the Reebok CrossFit Games Open, edging out Josh Bridges by just one point. Watch the story of his success and how he confronted Workout 11.6 three times in just two days in hopes of securing the win.

After an initial attempt earned him 139 reps and a second attempt a day later earned him 144, Bailey is forced to retry 11.6 just three hours after his second attempt if he wants to take the top spot in the men’s competition.

Bailey wrestles with the decision to retry the workout a final time, but he is driven by the memory of last year’s regional, where he placed fifth and missed competing at the CrossFit Games by just two places.

“I didn’t win because I wasn’t as good as the competition—that’s just the truth of it,” he says. “Kind of made me hungry for this year.”

“I’m real competitive—I want to win,” Bailey says.

On his third attempt in 24 hours, Bailey finally takes home the overall title with a hard-earned 148 reps on 11.6.

Post-workout he is hurting but thankful to his faith, his family and his friends for getting him there.

“I’m never doing that one again,” says Bailey, who is excited to move on to the Central East Regional in mid-June.
