Butler coach Brad Stevens inspires an Indianapolis church

Butler coach Brad Stevens inspired his team to back-to-back Final Fours, the first coach in the state of Indiana to do so, and on Sunday, he took that same inspiration to a local church.

Stevens was invited to speak at St. Luke's Methodist Church in Indianapolis for two services. He spoke about faith, his team's perseverance and overcoming adversity.

Butler beat the odds to return to the NCAA national championship for a second consecutive season, just the fifth team to do so since the field was expanded to 64 in 1985. The Bulldogs had a buzzer beater against Old Dominion and last-second heroics against Pittsburgh. The way the Bulldogs played earned them a national following and they became the underdog everyone was rooting for against Connecticut in the national championship.

Even though Butler lost 53-41, Stevens and his team became an inspiration to the rest of the country.

"You don't face real adversity on a basketball court, but you think you do," Stevens told the parishioners. "And how you react to both success and adversity is really important as you move on and try to live a fulfilled life afterward."

Stevens' presence at the church likely earned Butler a couple more fans, including St. Luke's United Methodist pastor Dr. Kent Millard, who wore a Butler baseball cap for part of the service.

The next stop on Stevens inspirational tour could be Wrigley Field. The Chicago Cubs have been talking about inviting Stevens back for a second chance to sing "Take Me Out To The Ballgame."
