Oregon State spoofs commercials, hands out a scholarship

Oregon State might not have a lot of success on the basketball court -- it was 11-20 last season -- but at least the Beavers are having fun during their off time.

Several players, and coach Craig Robinson, spoofed some of the country's most popular commercials in a YouTube video this week. Included in the collection is a spoof on the State Farm commercial where the actors wish for things by saying, "Like a good neighbor, State Farm is there…" and then add what they want at the end of the sentence. In the Oregon State version, the jingle goes "Cuz I'm a Beaver, I get what I want..." and players proceed to get everything from new shoes to sandwiches. But junior walk-on forward Kevin McShane made the best wish of all as he asked for a scholarship and Robinson delivered.

This actually happened. Well, Robinson didn't just appear out of thin air to give McShane a scholarship, but McShane was awarded a scholarship last week after spending the past two seasons as a walk-on.

McShane spent both seasons as a team captain, and despite averaging less than a point per game, he was one of two players to appear in all 31 of the Beavers' games. He'll also be the lone senior next season.

Probably the most hilarious spoof on the video is the last one for Beaver Drop soda. I'll just leave that one for you to enjoy.

Spoofs became really popular with several teams last season. Long Beach State earned popularity for its collection of "No Sick Days" videos where a players and later a coach roll around in a plastic bubble to ensure that they're still at practice, but not getting the rest of the team sick.

Loyola Marymount did an "I love my school" spoof where football players went around the campus tackling students who were wearing gear from other schools in the Los Angeles area.

And of course there was the UC Santa Barbara Old Spice commercial spoof where senior Justin Joyner invites students to games.

But I think Oregon State's efforts are somewhere near the top. Perhaps it's because it spoofed three commercials in one video or perhaps it's because of the dancing at the end. You be the judge.
