C.J. Johnson is done with social media and no matter what anyone says, it's his choice.
The incoming freshman linebacker from Ole' Miss tweeted several controversial and inappropriate things over the weekend, including descriptions of sexual acts and curse words, which piqued the interest of the football staff and administration at Ole Miss.
And not in a good way.
According to Kyle Campbell, Ole Miss' director of media relations for football, Johnson decided to "voluntarily" shut down his page after a heart-to-heart with the football staff.
"We regularly conduct social media education for our student-athletes and recently began working with our incoming freshmen," Campbell said Monday in an email to The Jackson Clarion-Ledger. "C.J. had posted some inappropriate material in the past, and after speaking with our staff, felt it was best to close his account for the time being. We will continue to work with the young men and women in our programs to stress the importance of representing themselves and Ole Miss in a respectful and positive light."
This isn't the first social media run-in for Johnson.
Back in January, Johnson got into a verbal back-and-forth on his Facebook page with fans who were debating the merits of attending Ole Miss versus Mississippi State. Johnson was originally committed to Mississippi State before opting to attend Ole Miss.
Johnson discontinued his Facebook page shortly after.
Johnson was the top-rated player in the state of Mississippi and the No. 2-rated inside linebacker in the country for 2011 by Rivals.com. Johnson is expected to start this season after D.T. Shackleford suffered a torn ACL during spring football and Clarence Jackson was dismissed from the team.
