Bringing CrossFit to Endurance Athletes

“I’m a journalist within the running and triathlon world, I mean that’s what I’ve been doing for the last 14 years. So one of the things for me is to explore something new with validity behind it and report on it,” says T.J. Murphy, the editor-in-chief of Competitor Magazine. Through the coaching of Brian MacKenzie of CrossFit Endurance, Murphy is exploring CrossFit and bringing it into the spotlight.

Murphy recently launched a 10-page spread on CrossFit Endurance in Triathlete Magazine with the article Go Inside One Triathlete’s Venture Into CrossFit Endurance. Murphy tells the story of Guy Petruzzelli, a CrossFit Endurance athlete who inspired him to try the program for himself.

Fed up with injury after injury from traditional training, Murphy was ready for a change.

Despite running 50-60 miles a week, Murphy says he wasn’t improving. He first found Kelly Starrett of San Francisco CrossFit for physical therapy, and the experience led him down the path to CrossFit Endurance. Since he started, he’s already made significant improvement.

“I think by him following suit with this and giving this a shot that we’re going to see a whole lot of people accept this because of who he is and what he’s done,” MacKenzie says.
