Emo Rodriguez pleads his case with words of God, Josh Groban

It got a little misty Thursday at Michigan's year-end banquet, where embattled coach Rich Rodriguez closed the night by telling the room, "My name is Rich Rodriguez, I'm honored to be the head football coach at the University of Michigan, and I hope you all realize I truly want to be a Michigan man." He then quoted a Bible verse, had players, coaches and staff hold hands, and played this song:

Aaaaand cue the mocking montages by rivals. You make their life too easy, coach. You really do.

I, for one, do not think Rodriguez is going to be fired after the Wolverines' bowl game, especially if it's a win to push the record to 8-5, a clear step forward in his third season. But I will say this: Under no circumstances would Bo Schembechler, patron saint of Wolverine football, ever, ever associate himself with this song in public. Now, if it was his team, Jim Harbaugh probably would have gone with "Long Way to the Top," personally. But hey, maybe that's why he decided to save everyone the awkwardness and stay in California.

[Update, 3:07 p.m. ET] Even Josh Groban thought it was pretty lame.
