For the first time in his six years as Tennessee head coach, Bruce Pearl was forced to watch the Vols game on TV. The embattled head coach served the first of his eight game suspension imposed by the SEC."It was harder because you felt pretty helpless during the game,'' Pearl told the Knoxville News-Sentinel. "I took notes the whole game.''
Pearl was forced to watch from a hotel room with his wife and Tennessee's associate athletic director. The Vols fell 68-65 Saturday to Arkansas.
If his sideline antics are any indication as to how he would act during a televised game, I can't imagine this was a very enjoyable atmosphere for the other parties in the room.
"I'm sure I treated it somewhat like a supporter ... nothing I could do,'' Pearl said. "It is not something (Pearl's wife) is looking forward to doing again.''
It's probably not something that anyone is interested in doing, especially his team. The Vols need wins and consistency, so without their head coach on the sidelines anarchy could reign supreme for a team that struggles to stay under control as it is. They now sit at 10-5 and are in grave danger of missing the NCAA Tournament for the first time in Pearl's tenure. Plus, the NCAA has yet to rule on the situation, so the punishment could be worse.
So, yeah, probably not all that enjoyable to watch a UT loss on TV with Bruce Pearl.
